CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Alder Daragh
CANON: OC
CANON REFERENCE: Some world info: for about seven years and some change, Heaven and Hell were embroiled in a bitter war, waged in the human realm of Earth. Earth had previously only a little "warning", so to speak, of the war and even the existence of Heaven and Hell. It was previously a place much like our own Earth in 2020. Humans were pulled into this war on the side of Heaven, with a few outliers siding with the demons in Hell.
This war was bloody and cold, claiming many lives on all sides, but ultimately ending up with Heaven as the victors. Demons were killed, jailed for their war crimes, or banished to the war-ravaged Hell with no chance of escape.
The story that Alder is a part of takes place 40 years after the war, in a human realm that is struggling to heal its wounds. Humans and demons suffered the most losses, and Heaven seems to be just fine even though its representatives paint a picture of continued hardship in their realm.
God and Satan are nowhere to be seen or heard or felt, and the hunt to find them for answers, for peace, for safety, is on.
The story mostly follows Noble, a half-angel/half-human that is married off to an angel prince named Caius ( who Alder hates very much ).
Alder Daragh was born to an angel mother ( Dessa ) and a demon father ( Mnemni ) that loved him dearly. Their union was a forbidden one, and therefore this child was hated by most besides them. It was a life, for the first few years, of running away from the angels that sought his parents. When he was seven years old, Alder saw his mother die trying to protect him from the same angels that she called comrades in the war.
Mnemni brought Alder to a friend, another comrade, who knew about him and was trusted deeply. That friend was Orion, a celebrated war heroine, who had severe PTSD and agoraphobia. She raised Alder until he was ten, until he ran away. He didn't want to be a burden on her and he believed that he was just a reminder of his mother — who Orion was deeply in love with.
Mnemni was nowhere to be found, but Alder housed himself with a pack of were-hellhounds who kept him safe. That's where he met Atlas, who would come to be his partner in crime. Alder felt bitter about how demons were treated, and he grew to become outspoken and loud about championing demon rights, now disguising himself as a full demon so as to not attract the attention and wrath of angels.
Eventually he became well-known in his city and even beyond, demons talking of a "chosen one" and angels calling him cursed. He's been working to liberate demons from the secret horrors they face at the hands of those angels that say that demons are merely sent back to a war-ravaged Hell, or that they're "rehab'd". In reality, demons were being killed.
With Atlas as his right hand, Alder has grown his group — called Seventh Circle — from the ground up. They give shelter to demons and bust up angel facilities where they can, and seek to tell the truth about the horrors that Heaven puts demons through.
At Alder's canon point, tensions between himself and those seeking to kill him are threatening to boil over. He's calm and cruel when he meets Noble, by chance, at Orion's greenhouse; he happens to be there because Caius' parents are war comrades of hers and he takes a liking to the peace in her home. They don't get along, really. At first, anyway.
CANON POINT: Just after meeting Noble
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: 27
APPEARANCE: IMG REFERENCE
He's 6'7" and built. Gold eyes and a mark below the right one; these features mark him as a member of th last circle of Hell in his familial lineage. He has dark ram horns and sharp fangs. Piercings and tattoos up his arms in various sigils and wards to keep himself safer from certain forms of magic.
CONTRACT PAYMENT: Aitne's return to Seventh Circle; Aitne is one of the higher ups in the organization he leads (Seventh Circle) but they went missing without a trace one day and this greatly disturbed and traumatized him.
QUESTIONNAIRE:What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?
I don't have much time for diversions these days. Feels like it's all cut and run unless we have the chance to lay low.
( He shrugs. )
As long as I can keep Seventh Circle safe, I don't mind being boring. ... Other than that, I like angel ichor when I can get it. As far as vices go, heh.
What is the most frightening thing you've ever done? What part of you did it test the most?
When I took off from Orion's. I was young. Had no idea what Hell was really like, all I knew is that it was where I belonged. Angels do nothing but hurt. Demons survive. That's what I needed.
( There's a small smile. )
I'd say it tested my faith in myself. I had to kick it on my own until the pack took me in, you know? I'd say I did all right.
What are your greatest regrets, if you have any? What would you have done differently?
( He takes a moment to answer, eyes unseeing. The wheels turn. )
I already think about this shit more than anyone has a need to. I wouldn't have left Aitne alone. As much as I love Orion, she can handle herself. I shouldn't have chased after her knowing there were angels on our tail.
( There's a strange, shuddering lilt to his voice. )
Let's talk about something else.
How do you react to betrayal? How severe must a betrayal be for you to consider it such?
Even in a ... line of work like mine, I don't face this too often. Demons and 'hounds are loyal as they come.
That said ... It depends on who's doing the betrayal. I'd say I'd probably go batshit no matter who it is, but I might forgive someone quicker if they're one of my own. Like Orion. She could probably cut my arm off and I'd find a reason to thank her.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Alder has demon abilities and angel abilities both; he tends to favor his demon side. He also has the unique ability to shift and take on the appearance of either a demon or angel; the demon appearance is his "default", with golden eyes and ram horns and claws. The angel appearance is rare for him to take, with white wings sprouting from the bottom of his ribs, glowing blue eyes, and a general lighter aura.
DEMON: HEIGHTENED STRENGTH, ENDURANCE, AGILITY, AND SPEED:He's about strong enough to lift a typically-sized bus with some effort, and can punch through walls and bodies just fine.
Alder can fight for what seems like days with injury and exhaustion piled on him; it's quite hard to take him down when he's determined. He could fight after losing limbs or with gunshot wounds just fine, for example.
He's fast enough to outpace human sprinting, though he can't keep up top speeds for terribly long.
FEAR MANIPULATION.He's able to put fear, seemingly out of nowhere, into the hearts of humans, angels, and demons alike. He can tailor it specifically to specific fears they they have such as small spaces or water; making them feel like they're confined or drowning, etc.
This will be nerfed into just a general sense of fear and anxiety, and nothing near the level he could create back home. And only one person at a time instead of a roomful.
FIRE CONJURING AND CONTROL.He's able to create flames and control them, though not to a great degree like, say, Lio from Promare, who is able to create weapons and forms out of flame. His is just hellfire he can brandish and grow. This ability is pretty much unlimited.
ANGEL: FLIGHT.He can fly with his wings, but he doesn't really like to.
EMOTION SHARING.Alder can share his emotions — which are usually level and even — with others to calm them, or to feel what another is going through in order to really understand them. This is very intimate to him and not used often at all.
HEALING OF OTHERS.Through his angelic grace, Alder is able to heal bodily injuries of others, though nothing considered mortal for whichever type of angel, demon, human, hellhound, etc. he's healing, and he's not able to attach missing limbs.
SUITABILITY: He's no stranger to organized crime, nor violence, sex, and drugs. I think he'd fit in pretty well no matter which faction he ends up in.
FACTION SUITABILITY:SHUTEN: He'd love it here. He's pretty "might is right" in a few respects, and I think he's strong and ruthless and innovative in that strength and violence enough that he could offer quite a bit to them. His own organization is run a little different and is certainly different in its origin and purpose, but he does recognize that strength matters in both worlds — survival-based, or organized crime. If he's protecting his own or asserting strength against another faction, he's going to use similar methods, so I think he'd do well in Shuten.
TAMAMO: He'd love it here too, but in a different way; while might is right in some respects for him, he's familiar with sneakiness and subterfuge that Tamamo is more prone to. Seeing him run/work a brothel would be interesting, also. He certainly wouldn't be bored. It would be employing a different skillset for him — one he's familiar with, but only has to employ for survival's sake. Just a different part of his brain. But it'd certainly teach him to be able to relax in some regards, I think; he's typically switched "on" all the time.
SUTOKU: He'd like it here, but I don't know how well he'd get along with the youkai here. He could offer his strength and unique abilities, but might find himself bored quickly through their more financial-based work and feeling a sort of ... lack of fulfillment. With Sutoku, he'd like their egalitarian views very much, but not much else about them. Still, I think he'd come to appreciate them more in time. I think it'd be an interesting fit.
ENMA: He'd hate it here enough that he might cause trouble for the Department. Everything about them, despite them being youkai, would remind him of the angels he so hates. Order and the upholding of it no matter what would drive him absolutely batshit, especially holding the contract over his head. But in terms of what he could offer them, he could certainly fall in line and work well when it comes to his comrade Aitne.
